Useful information when learning to drive
Apply for a provisional license
First things first, before you can learn to drive, you need a provisional driving license! You can apply for one by filling in a D1 form from your local post office or you can do it online by clicking here.
If you’re keen to get going you can do this up to 3 months before your 17th birthday.
Book your theory test
You can take your theory test once your provisional licence becomes valid. Normally, for car drivers, the earliest date your provisional licence can become valid is your 17th birthday.
Remember, you can apply for the licence up to three months before your 17th birthday however, you will still have to wait until your birthday before you can take your theory test.
Book your driving lessons
